Most buses in Seoul accept payment using a rechargeable transportation card or the transportation card function of a credit card. In the past, cash payments were accepted, but the bus system is gradually expanding to become cashless.
 
When taking a bus or subway in Seoul, you must use a transportation card or credit card to pay to receive transfer benefits.
 
But what should I do if I get on the bus without a card or cash?

This is how to transfer money directly to the bus company. Explain the situation to the bus driver and ask for a 요금납부안내서(yogeum-nabbu-annaeseo). The bus driver will give you a paper with all the instructions written in Korean. The instructions will list the account number and amount to be transferred. Unfortunately, this method will be difficult to use if you cannot send money to a Korean account.
 
So, don't forget to prepare your transportation card in advance.
